Xmas is OVER!!!

This Xmas season passed really really quickly. Maybe it was because we were packed with activities during this holiday and therefore time passes really fast.

24 Dec 09 - Xmas eve. We had a family gathering at Aunty Jenny's house. Almost everyone was there. I made walnut cake for each family and had brought down my bottle of Rose to share with everyone.

25 Dec 09 - Xmas Day. The party last night ended late and cannot relax yet as there's another party going on tonight. We had a few friends coming over in the evening for a BBQ. Luckily I got most of the party ware required and we only need to go pick up a handful of items to be all ready for the party.

** Those who came by for BBQ **

26 Dec 09 - Boxing Day. JM and myself have yet another gathering to head to this evening. We have a dinner date with ZY and Perle. Kids are not coming along because mummy wants to drink ... LOL. Dinner was a feast!!! We had Roast Chicken, Mussels, Lamb Chops and Chocolate Fondue for dessert. Yummy ... YUM YUM!!!

** Our host preparing dinner **

27 Dec 09 - Post X'mas. Guess how we ended our X'mas weekend ... a trip to PG with the KIDS!!!

At East Coast Park

When friends jio-ed us for a day out at ECP yesterday. We thought it would be a good idea to bring the kids out for some outdoor play and hence were looking forward to the outing and were happy that Oswald can go for his bicycle ride.

Though we woke up a bit late, we left the house feeling excited. But excitement died down when JM could not locate Oswald's bicycle. We looked around and even called his dad to check the bicycle's location. Oswald's bicycle is LOST!!! Damn ... how could that happen. Even if his bicycle was not locked properly (which we saw many others are not even locked) it shouldn't do missing just like that. For goodness sake, we are staying in a condo ... not HDB!!! Damn those who took it away!!! [Oswald was so sad that his bicycle was lost when we broke the news to him later on. He wept as he said, "We must go to police station, get police to catch the bad guys"] As we were already late, we let the matter pass for the moment but it did spoil our mood a little.

We rented bicycle for Oswald and myself. Owein will be riding with me. JM got his blade with him. But JM only realised that his blades' buckle was damaged when he plan to changed into them. Luckily there's a shop round the corner can salvage the problem. It also turned out that the shop is own by a neighbour staying in the same block as us. Lucky JM, get to change his buckle at neighbour price and got a set of wheels for his blades as well FOC.

It was a great day out for the kids and the adults as well. The only thing is that Oswald's bicycle was missing. Anyway, we've got him a new bicycle to replaced the lost one at night. Hope it will not go missing again.

Check out our happy times HERE.

Drama - 天国的阶梯 (Stairway to Heaven)

This show took me awhile to finish it. Not because it is not nice or boring but because hubby is back and my day was actually packed with more activities :) Anyway, for those who can't get enough of the korean romance, here's one that you should not miss ... p/s:- get prepared to cry your eyes out if you are those emotional type :p

Jung-suh and Song-joo grew up together. They were always there for each other. Tragedy begins when Song Joo begins his studies overseas without her and his father remarries Tae Mira. She takes in her two children from a previous marriage, Tae-hwa and Yuri.

Yuri is envious of the life that Jung Suh leads and is determined to take everything away from her, including Song-joo. Tae-hwa begins to develop feelings for his stepsister, however Jung-suh still loves Song-joo.

Five years later, tragedy occurs when Jung-suh gets into a car accident causing her to lose her memory. Together with Tae-hwa, they start anew. Song-joo is led to believe that she is dead. However, when they meet again one day, he is determined to remind her of the love they had for one another. When fate finally seemed to be on their side, Jung-suh is diagnosed with eye cancer.

Oswald eye checkup

Brought Oswald to his PD for his annual assessment and during the assessment PD did an eye screening. That brief screening suggested that Oswald might not be seeing quite well and PD suggest that we bring him to an eye specialist for a detail check up.

I'd booked him in for a checkup this morning at Gleneagles and result of the check up as follows:-

Convert to layman terms = Oswald got astigmatism for both eyes (200 - right eye, 225 - left eye). Though it was said that is it normal for kids his age to have astigmatism and he is still in the acceptable range but his degree is on the higher end of the acceptable figures. Doctor said for this kind of result at this age, very likely the astigmatism is due to the shape of the eye ball. But at this age, there's still chance that his eye ball will grow rounder and hence astigmatism would reduce. So, meanwhile, doctor said to let him put on spectacles and to review him 2 months later to see how is the situation.

My Pressies!!!

My rewards ... thanks dear :)

Drama - 最后之舞 (Save Your Last Dance for Me)

Erm ... I seriously think I got hooked to Korean dramas. How come we don't have such script writers locally who can come up with such romantic story line. Anyway, I've once again completed another heart wreaking romance drama which I complete in record timing. All because the story is just too touching ...

Eunsoo (Eugene) is a pure but unsophisticated woman who runs a small resort inn with her father. Eunsoo is just an ordinary girl, but her life changes when she meets a man (Ji Sung) who’s completely lost his memory. She takes him in and cares for him, and even gives him a name: “Baek Changho”.

Love blossoms, and soon wedding bells can be heard. But on the night of their wedding ceremony, Eunsoo’s father passes away. And soon after, Changho disappears too! In the blink of an eye, the two people Eunsoo loves most in the world have left her. But Changho had his reasons for disappearing: his real name is Kang Hyunwoo, and he’s heir to a large conglomerate. Even more, someone is plotting to kill him.

Day 129 of JM's US Detachment Trip

2 weeks back, Oswald was playing with JM's Tantrix game while waiting for grandma to put him to bed. This was what happened ...

Though this was not what it supposed to be like if you follow the rules of the game but for a 4 year old to piece out something like that ... hmm ... I think it was pretty amazing. I only got to know of it when I woke up in the morning and my FIL told me to check out what Oswald did.

Owein checked out his gor gor's work too and he brought a 'friend' along ...

He said "Cow cow eat mum mum ..." We all had a good laugh when we heard him say that ... LOL.

Day 127 of JM's US Detachment Trip

RIP ... little fishy ... hope you did not have to suffer so much before you leave.

The little fish friend that my FIL got as companion for the fish that Oswald brought back from his field trip to Qian Hu Fish Farm was being bullied. Constantly being attacked by the other fish and I think it was terrorised.

I'd noticed it swimming in a very funny position a few days back but my FIL told me it would be alright hence I ignore it. But who knows, I was observing it today and many a times it swam upside down ... I think it was really a bit hint that something is really wrong. My FIL then seperated the fishes, hoping that the little fish will feel better after given some peace. But still ... it did not make it. It ended its life this evening ... RIP fishy.

Drama - 桌球天王 (The King of Snooker)

It had been awhile since I last recommend a TVB drama. This particular show caught my attention mainly because it all revolves round snooker. Erm ... not that I like or play snooker ... in fact I DON'T ... but personally, I think it will be quite interesting to know more about the game itself.

The all-conquering snooker player Yau Yat Kiu (Adam Cheng) takes everyone by surprise when he suddenly retires from the snooker world. This comes as a huge disappointed to her daughter Yau Ka Kan (Niki Chow), who has always wanted to follow in his footsteps. She feels bewildered too, for although Kiu pretends he does not care about the snooker any more, he has set up an extremely difficult game in his restaurant. His purpose cannot be more obvious: he is waiting for someone to solve the game. Kiu comes to know Kan Tze Him (Patrick Tang) by chance. Noticing his flair for the snooker, Kiu decides to make an exception for Him and teaches him all he knows about the game. Later, Kan manages to persuade her father into taking her in as well.

Him fancies Kan, but she is fond of Lui Kin Chung (Derek Kwok), Kiu's bitter foe. Chung is a crafty person. In order to win the game, he fools around with Him's aunt Chin To To (Joyce Tang), who is also Him's manager. Him falls out with Kiu because of Chung. Both master and disciple come to settle their scores on a snooker-table in the end

Day 112 of JM's US Detachment Trip

Hey ... check this out !!!

Oswald got a new friend ...

Oswald brought this little friend back after his school trip to Qian Hu Fish Farm today. Everyone who went for the trip today gets to go home with a fish. I guess the cost for the fish was already included in the $5.00 that was required to join the trip.

I bet the happiest person today will be Oswald. He had wanted a fish as a pet for the longest time.

Now let's see how long this fish can last with the bare minimum that is available at home. This tiny fish is house in a plastic container upon suggestion from my FIL.

I am still considering if I should get a proper tank for it. But then again ... if I do, where can I place it. That's another issue to be solved before I can even consider getting it a tank ... LOL!!!

Day 108 of JM's US Detachment Trip

中秋节 is round the corner, everywhere is selling mooncakes and lanterns. Oswald was quite attracted to the lanterns this year round and had even requested me to get him one. Since he too had to bring a lantern to school for 中秋节 celebration, I gave in to his request and told him to select one for himself. This is what he'd choosen ...

And because he got one ... I also have to get the same one for Owein to prevent them from 'fighting' ...

It is a SCAM!!!

** ring ... ring ... ring **

Me: Hello ...

Caller: Erm ... is this XXX?

Me: Erm ... no. I think you got the wrong number.

Caller: Oh, sorry.

The call ended at this point ... but less than a minute later ...

** ring ... ring ... ring **

Me: Hello ...

Caller: Erm ... I think I got the wrong number again.

Me: YA! What number are you trying to dial?

Caller: Erm ... 6XXXXXX (Caller dialed a mobile number but mentioned 6 as the 1st number ... suspicious!!!)

Me: The number you mentioned is confirm not my number.

Caller: Then what is your number?

Me: You are the one calling, why should I tell you my number?

Ended the call immediately and caller did not call back again.

What the ... is there a scam going on or what?

This is the 2nd time this year I got such a call. Where got caller who dailed a wrong number, ask back what's your number when being confronted one. And who in the right frame of mind would give the caller his/her own number in such a situation. I gave him a piece of my mind and cut his line.

DUH!

Day 100 of JM's US Detachment Trip

Time is flying ... but still not fast enough ... hahaha hubby is away for 100 days liao but is still a long way to his estimate date of return (20 November 09) ... sigh.

Today I had made arrange with Rene and we brought the kids (Oswald and Cayden) to watch another movie ... G-Force. Movie screening at GV Jurong Point, 10:40am.

It is a comedy adventure about the latest evolution of a covert government program to train animals to work in espionage. Armed with the latest high-tech spy equipment, these highly trained guinea pigs discover that the fate of the world is in their paws.

I think the movie is so-so only lah ... being the only cartoon that is showing at Jurong Point. After the movie we went walking around leisurely around Jurong Point. Simply love the weekday atmosphere ... can walk around slowly and no need to squeeze with the crowd. I was looking out for a pair of shoe but too bad ... nothing caught my eye.

Lunch was at 鼎泰丰 ... yummy 小龙包 and delicious chicken soup. That's for the 2 mummies ... and the kids - pork chop fried rice. Oswald quite like it and because of that, I need not keep reminding him to eat ... eat ... eat. After getting our tummies filled ... the best thing to do is to head home for a nap ... wahahaha. By the time we got home, it was close to 3:00pm liao. Feeling tired, I too KO-ed together with Oswald.

Actually had plans to go prawning in the evening but due to last minute changes, plans was cancelled. Also, because I woke up late from nap, I did not have time to prepare dinner for Oswald. In the end, I headed out with him again for dinner ... this time, we took a bus to Lot 1. We ate dinner, shop around abit (finally found pair for shoe for myself) then we hopped on the train to head home. Stopped by MacDonalds for ice cream, a reward for Oswald for behaving quite well today, and then a bus ride home. The little fellow was quite excited with all his rides as he had been asking for it for quite sometime already.

Drama - 葡萄园里的那男子 (The Man Of The Vineyard)

Ready for more romance ... hehehehe :p

A romantic-comical drama that revolves around the life of Lee Ji-Hyun (Yoon Eun Hye), a city girl who wants to show the world that beneath her seemingly ordinary characteristics is an extraordinary girl who will some day achieve great things. Ji-Hyun is a striving young clothing designer, who hopes to have her own label one day. Her plans are put on hold when she reluctantly takes up a tempting offer from her granduncle. She had to work one year in her granduncle's vineyard in order to inherit it. In the vineyard, the challenge of adjusting to country life is made more difficult when she has to learn how to grow grapes under the supervision of the seemingly uncouth and unsympathetic man in charge of the vineyard, Jang Taek-Gi (Oh Man Suk).

Amidst conflicts and trials, Ji-Hyun and Taek-Gi learned to care for each other. As time goes by, Ji Hyun finds herself falling in love with the vineyard and the man in it. Through the mundane process of grape farming and the personal relationship of Ji-Hyun and Taek-gi, this story portrays how beauty and kindness can be found in everything and everyone when one looks beyond the surface.

Day 91 of JM's US Detachment Trip

We had 2 days for fun filled and 'actioned' packed days.

On 31 August 09, Oswald had a short day at school and Cayden got a day off both due to Teacher's Day Celebration, I'd made arrangement with Rene to go Warren Country Club to bring the boys BOWLING!!! It had been ages since I last stepped into a bowling alley to bowl ... LOL

Because the alley only opens at 2pm, and we were early, we had spent some time else where in the club. The boys had spent quite abit of energy climbing and running around in the indoor playground. After that, we went to the games room ... we played Daytona and Time Crisis ... the games there are so CHEAP ... only 40 cents per game!!!

** Click on pic to see album **

Yesterday, 1 September 09, we had made arrange to go to the Zoo. Picked Rene and Cayden up at about 10:15am and off we went to the Zoo. I got a big shock when we arrived at the carpark. It was packed with cars ... this was something which I did not expect to see on Teacher's Day holiday. Despite the crowd, we'd still decided to join in the fun since we were already there. We went ahead with our activities first because Rene got to wait for her SIL and friends. We headed to the Kidz World right away.

The water play area was crowded with people but we still managed to find some space for the boys to play. However, fun time in the water was really a short one. Not long after the boys started to play, the sky was invaded by dark clouds. I called Rene to stop her from joining me get gotted her to find seats at Ah Meng Cafe for lunch hoping to be able to wait out the rain. With the help of my FIL, we managed to changed the boys fast and reached the Cafe just in time to escape the rain. We had even decided to catch the Rainforest Fights Back show hoping that the rain will stop after that so we can continue with our activity.

But just too bad ... the show was cancelled due to the rain and we got to head home.

Day 87 of JM's US Detachment Trip

It had been a while since I last wrote. In fact, I had spent lesser time at the computer ever since I started watching 花样男子 (Boys over Flowers). After that show, somehow the drama bug had gotten into me and drama is all I could think of once the kids are asleep. It was a pretty good way to waste away hours at night other than facing the computer :)

I guess I had an overdosed of drama and I think it is time to slow down or stop for awhile for now. And hence ... I AM BACK ... ranting away :p

Life's pretty 'normal' during these days anyway. Nothing out of the routine happened other than Oswald's school trip to the Neighbourhood Police Station on 26th Aug 2009.

After his visit to the police station ... he told me he want to be a POLICE MAN!!!

Drama - 咖啡王子1号店 (The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince)

After watching Boys over Flowers, I got hooked to korean drama.

咖啡王子1号店 was aired on Channel U quite sometime back but did not have a chance to watched it back then. Also, recommend by the rental shop people, I decided to give it a try. I ended up watching the whole serial faster than I thought.

The life of Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) is not easy. With a foolish mother and the need to look after her younger sister, "pretty boy" Go Eun Chan has to give up her feminine image to help support the family with multiple jobs.

Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo), seems to know women well and thinks of himself as a great guy, is the heir of a big food company, but his grandmother wants him to settle down, so she arranged many dates for him.

After Eun Chan bumped into Han Kyul and was mistaken for a boy, Han Kyul decided to hire Eun Chan to be his gay lover in order to avoid the arranged dates. Desperately in need of money, Eun Chan had no choice but to accept. Han Kyul's grandmother also made Han Kyul in charge of a filthy coffee shop in danger of being bankrupt. Eun Chan begged to work at the coffee shop, and not long after, feelings start to spark, except, how would Han Kyul accept his "homosexuality"?

Drama - 花样男子 (Boys over Flowers)

Got to know this drama when it was aired on Channel U. Clips of the show on TV kinda caught my attention and so it bacame one of my to-watch drama. Maybe I am a sucker for fantasy love story ... but I was addicted to the show the moment I started it. I'd completed this 25 episode drama in 4 nights!!!

This is a Korean remake drama adapted from a popular Japanese manga. This is the equivalent of the Japan’s Hana Yori Dango (TV Series) and the Taiwanese drama 流星花园 (Meteor Garden) (TV Series).

Geum Jan-Di is an average girl whose family owns a dry cleaning store located near the luxurious and well known Shin Hwa College. Jan Di meets the four richest and most spoiled boys known as the F4. After saving a boy from jumping off the roof of Shinhwa High School, she is admitted into the school on a swimming scholarship. Jan Di tries to avoid confrontation with the F4 at all cost because she knows what happens to those that stand against them. However, when Jan Di’s friend, Oh Min Ji, accidentally gets ice cream on the leader of the F4’s shoes, she’s forced to declare war on the leader of the F4, Goo Joon Pyo.

Ironically, Gu Jun Pyo, having never been stood up to, begins to develop feelings for her. He tries unsuccessfully to woo her as she slowly begins to spend more time with Jun Pyo and his friends. Jan Di teaches Jun Pyo that money cannot buy everything and in order to have real friends, he himself must be real or use his heart, but Gu Jun Pyo still does not understand why someone like Jan Di should dislike him. As the story progresses, Jun Pyo falls deeper in love with Jan Di and she learns how to open herself to his love as well.

As love begins to blossom, Jun Pyo’s mother discovers them and deems it unsuitable. She does everything in her power to keep the two apart, even arranging a marriage for Jun Pyo. Other factors keep arising as another member of the group falls in love with Jan Di and in a twist of fate, Jun Pyo loses his memory. In the end, however, Gu Jun Pyo and Jan Di learn that love conquers all and that they are truly soul mates.

Day 58 of JM's US Detachment Trip

Today is my FIL's Birthday.

And, my present to him is this lovely Chilled Mango Cheesecake.

Isn't it pretty :p *arbish* hehe.

I've decorated the sides of the cake with ladies finger sponge which can be easily bought from the supermarket. Topped it with some fruits - I've got cherries, champange grapes and blueberries. Added a Birthday tag and a cute candle which I found at B-I-Y.

Sound very simple right. BUT ... I'd spend almost the whole day preparing this cake. From making the sponge layer to preparing the mango-cheese mixture. Then allowing it to set before I can do the top layer. Setting it further before unmoulding it for decorations. All the time and effort put it for this pretty cake ... I enjoyed every moment of it. Especially when everyone enjoyed eatting it.

For more insights of the cake ... check this album out - Outings.

Day 55 of JM's US Detachment Trip

I am so glad that the doctor's medication works. Woke up this morning with no more pain in my throat. If not I would have to miss out on tonight's dinner liao.
Tonight we went to Tom Ton @ The Central for dinner as a early birthday dinner for my FIL. We wanted him to try the Black Pork and the super fresh sashimi.

We had a wide spread of food. Go check out them out at my online photo album - Outings 2009.

We had a wonderful time there and the boys behaved especially well. They both sat through dinner without creating a din. Oswald ate his dinner properly and Owein is forever asking to try the food served. He almost at up all the Chawamushi which I'd ordered for the kids to try. Oswald did not even bother to try and Owein ... almost ate it all up ... LOL.

A surprise was given to us when the chef present us this ...

It is a birthday 'cake' made out of rice coated with roe and topped with sashimi. Very innovating right!

Day 54 of JM's US Detachment Trip (Part 2)

*Yawnz* managed to catch about 2 hours of rest after I vented off some 'steam' earlier. But still because of the bad throat I had lost my voice completely when I woke up. I'd made up my mind to head to the doctor once I'd settled the kids lunch.

What a way to start a Monday morning but luckily did not dampen my mood enough to prevent me for making these for Oswald to bring to school.

** Ain't they cute :) **

When I showed Oswald and ask if he wanted to eat these in school or eat school breakfast, he went 'whining' away saying "I don't want that. I don't want to eat mouse." I tried to laugh but the pain in my throat prevent that. I've got to tell him these are not real mouse then he was convinced. P/S:- He ate them all up when I checked with him during dismissal. And that was after having one of the rolls I'd made with the sponge that I was practicing with the night before.

** Sponge sandwiched and rolled up with Whipped Cream + Strawberry / Blueberry Jam **

I'd practiced on my sponge last night in view for making a b'day cake for my FIL whose b'day is this friday. The sponge turned out nice and soft. Not wanting to waste them, I whipped some cream and spread on the sponge with some jam and made these 'make shift' cakes :p
