My Boys

Though 1 week past like a breeze, we've indeed spend some fun time with the boys during this March Holidays.

17 Mar @ Smart Kids Asia

Out of the blue, hubby decided to introduce the boys the cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and guess what ... Owein likes it a lot!!! And amazingly, these characters are still 'alive' aka you still get to see the cartoon on TV. A lot of our childhood cartoon characters had 'died' off and was never revived. Anyway, I also only recently found out that you can still catch these turtles on on Nickelodeon.

Hubby was all trilled when he spotted these turtles on an advertisement for Smart Kids Asia 2013 and insisted that he would want to bring the boys go see. Picture this: Sunday evening, a trip to the Expo, Smart Kids Asia event ... definitely a place I would want to avoid and probably the same for hubby too especially if I am the on who suggest it. But for sake of the turtles and not to spoil hubby's anticipation, I bit my teeth and fight through the crowd.

Owein was trilled when he see those turtles. Though we could only see them from afar and for that short 10 minutes, but I think that was enough the excite the boys.

24 Mar @ The White Rabbit

Like I mentioned earlier, March Holidays ended just like a breeze but that's at the expense of me almost turning into a mad women at the end of the week. Times like these, I really appreciate the existence of SCHOOLS!!! Having 3 boys at home during holidays is not a joke ... but why am I enjoying every moment with them :p

What more can I ask for when my crazy week ended with a beautiful brunch at The White Rabbit @ Dempsey with my 3 rascals and lovely friends. Love the place and love the peacefulness there.

Took pictures of the boys while waiting for friends and food. My boys ... all look so grown up already!!!

** Took me awhile to convince the boys to put their iPod down to take a picture ... SIGH **

** Odin was still sleeping when we reach so I'd decided to just let him sleep till our friends arrived **

** Little bunny active once again the moment he wakes **

** There was this huge cage with 2 bunny statues in it ... oh boy ... look how well Odin fits into the surrounding :p **

** My rare chance to have photo taken with Odin **

I thank LORD for the 3 wonderful boys I have. Though they are a handful but they complete my life. <3

Birthday Treat to Myself

Tomorrow is my BIRTHDAY!!! Adding on 1 more year to my current age once again ... 老了 ... 老了.

Sneaked out for a medi / pedi session. Mainly to remove what was on my nails before and also a little pampering session as a birthday gift =) Decided to leave my hands alone this time and just beautify my toes.

Very pretty art work isn't it. Look so much like a painting.

Bento #14 - Beary Friends

Hmm ... now where did I get this idea from ... oh, now I remember =)

It is from YUM-YUM Bento Box. If you have the book, it can be found on page 49.

I was browsing through the book searching for interesting food ideas for my boys. This idea had caught my attention as it is really simple to do. Great for lazy nights or when I just want to get the job done quickly. As usual, I'd use bread ends for the bears instead of cheese, which was used in the book.

Cooking experiments

I am a sucker for cookbooks. Love to be on a look out for them when I am at the bookstore and never resist to own any of it if anything interesting caught my attention. My collection of cookbooks had been growing but I seldom had the chance to try out recipes from them :p

I was flipping through the book, Yum-Yum Bento Box and saw some interesting ideas for the boys' meals and decided to make them my testers last week.

1) Pork Patties and Sesame Spinach (Pg 27)

See the bite size patties at the top right corner of the picture? Those are the patties mentioned in the recipe. I've made the patties bites size so that the boys could just pop each piece into their mouth instead of having to bite into it.

As for the sesame spinach, made a twitch as to how it is being served. Recommended as a side dish in the book but I minced it up and added it into the rice instead.

Verdict = Patties are pretty good. My boys love it. I was a little to careful when it comes to seasoning the spinach hence taste was still quite blend especially after mixing with the rice. Owein did not really like the rice because he sees all the greens in it. But I guess if the seasoning was a little stronger, it might be tastier and hence might 'mask' off the green sight. Will continue to work on this aspect.

2) Soboro Style Chicken and Egg (Pg 83)

How can kids resist food that is sweet, sweet, sweet =)

Gotten thumbs up from both the boys. Sneaky mummy had sneaked in carrots into the eggs. Grated the carrots and added it to the egg mixture. Though Owein did question why the eggs are orange in color but that did not bother him much.

Bento #13 - Wacky Monster

Monster bentos once again and they are wacky this time!!!

This also means mummy is gonna lose her head soon!!!

Had to fight with Odin to put him to bed at night STILL!!! This equates to a tired and exhausted mummy. So when it comes to bento making, it better be a fast to prepare idea.

Gotten inspiration from a fellow bento mummy and as shown, this is really simple. All that is needed to be done is to cut cheese/bread with round cutters for the eyes and a sharp knife to cut the teeth from a strip of cheese/bread. Using facial puncher to punch nori for the eyes and viola. Place the shapes on top of your favorite sandwich. ENJOY!!!

I hope next week would be a better week for me. Hope I would have more time to play with my bento tools on bento preparation nights. No more fighting with baby to put him to bed at night. FIGHTING!!!

Bento #12 - Monster

Hmm ... Monster ... why??

Wasn't in my best mood when preparing bento last night. Odin had been pretty cranky of late and have been sleeping late too. I was trying my best to put him to be before it is time to go pack bento but that did not happen. Had to leave him with hubby and sneak out to pack the boxes. That also mean that I have to be quick to pack the boxes.

Time constrain = Simple design
Moody mummy = Monster bento

But this is really easy to assemble. Took me about 15 minutes to get ready both boxes for final touch up in the morning. All that was needed was a round cutter for the eyes and a sharp knife for the teeth. I'd use the bento box to cut the bread so that it can be tugged nicely into the box.

EAT ... EAT ... EAT!!!

Had been on the look out for nice restaurants and nice food once again. With Odin much older now and slightly easier to bring out, I am once again on the look out for nice dining places. Of course with good company, food naturally becomes good too. Had been asking our dining buddies, ZY and Perle out for food quite often lately too.

In a short span of about 2 weeks, I've gone to:-

1) The Marmalade Pantry @ The Stables

Had dinner here on 12 Feb, on 3rd day of CNY. After a few rounds of CNY feasting, western food seems to be a good change. I was quite badly bitten by mosquito though we were sited indoors but I still quite like the place. The funny thing is, I am the only one bitten ... LOL. Nested in a corner in Bukit Timah, it is truly a nice place to chill out. I for sure will be heading back there again but next time, I will equip myself with mosquito patches =)

2) Relish

A simple Valentine's Day dinner with ZY and Perle and my little 宝贝 Odin. I guess we are the odd group at the restaurant on this night. The rest are all seated in 2s and we turned up in a big group :p But whatever the situation, we indeed had a great dinner and with great company.

My 2nd time at the place. Items on the menu is quite interesting but limited.

3) Central Hong Kong Cafe @ JP

19 Feb - Probably my 2nd or 3rd time here and so far, the food had not disappoint me. Maybe it is because I am a little 'sick' of another HK cafe that I visit quite frequently and this is really good for a change.

4) Carnivore @ Vivo

23 Feb - Once again, met our dining buddies for lunch today but we (Perle and myself) are on a MEAT hunt. Hence we landed ourselves at this meaty place. Somehow I really love my meat!!! Haven't got much mood to eat the past week ... meal times had gone hay wired. But when I saw those meat being served, can't stop sinking my teeth in the the meat!!!

5) Crystal Jade Premium @ ONE°15 Marina Club

Today, we had wanted to go Putien for dinner but the branch nearest to us is fully booked. Hence decided to give this place a try as we were on the look out for the least crowded place.

Menu concept is very similar to Tung Lok Signatures. All items are individual portions and are charged accordingly. Very premium food and quite pricey too. But environment is really good. Quiet and no need to worry about crowds. After a heavy meal, can even take a nice walk by the harbor bay.

FOOD!!! I love food!!!
Hope I would be able to hunt for more places to eat before my dining kaki pops =)

Bento #11 - Piggy Pig

Did another copy work for today's bento. This time is from a very season bento mama who puts her heart and soul into preparing nice and cute food for her son. This is just one of her many other wonderful works.

As usual, this piece of work had been in my to-do list for quite sometime. Finally decided to make it and strike it off my list. Here's my humble copy work of it.

Today only Owein gets a box to school. Oswald is going for an excursion to Changi Airport =)
